Everyone needs a wonderful hobby with which to spend their time. Maybe you have extra Saturdays and Sundays or perhaps you are retired and have much time. Perhaps you’d like an exotic hobby, but one you could do right at home. Have you thought about orchids? Here are some how to grow tips for orchids:
If you are a beginner, you need to make a good choice about what kind of orchid to choose as your first. You might want to work with one species first because some types of orchids have some different environmental differences in order to thrive and bloom. As in any hobby, you need early success to be motivated to continue.
Most orchid growers consider the true best choices for beginners as the Moth Orchid or the Lady’s Slipper. The Moth Orchid is one you have probably seen. It is fairly commonly found in places like Home Depot and Lowe’s. For a beginner, choosing one or the other is probably a good idea for two reasons: each needs a slightly different environment and a beginner needs to begin with an encouraging success!
Many beginners choose the Moth Orchid because they love the beautiful stalks of blossoms that range from white to lavender some even having contrasting centers.
Others choose the Lady’s Slipper because of its unusual features. These beautiful orchids have something resembling “hairs” and “warts” on their stalks, something that new orchid growers might not find attractive. Others more used to seeing the incredible variety of orchids available will appreciate its different features though. Beside the Moth Orchid the Lady’s Slipper it looks truly exotic and foreign. Another reason people choose the Lady’s Slipper is because when it matures, it blossoms all year round! Who could argue that?
